Goalie Tryout - Cynthia Lee

It was my turn last Sunday to be the pinball target, i mean the goalie. It was a very interesting experience. I learned new terms like crabbing (i've always associated that word with something edible until last sunday), learned to look at the game from a goalie's perspective (that includes putting my face on the floor), learned to go against my usual instincts of avoiding an oncoming potentially painful object :p besides other things. All in all, it was a good learning experience, hopefully it will improve my game as a field player. Hehe..

Some pointers I would like to share with those whose turns are coming up :)

: Do not remove goalie gear until you get the green light from the coach, or else you will spend the next ten minutes putting it back on.

: make sure you put on your knee guards on properly, otherwise you will be spending the whole time kneeling on the velcro ends instead of the proper paddings, or else you will have to keep tugging at it cos it keeps sliding down;

: don't wear your brand new shoes when playing goalie, otherwise it will become not so new :-(

: bring your own talcum with your favourite smell in order to boost your alertness in the court;

: bring more water because you will perspire more as a goalie due to the many layers of clothing/gear you need to wear;

: Lastly, if all else fails, just sit down in front of the goal and stick your hands out!

Final training in Damai Community Hall

As most of you should know, Damai Community Hall will be closed for renovation until this December. Which means, last week was actually our last training in Damai hall and if you happened to miss it...
COME JOIN US THIS SUNDAY (09.08.2009) in Tanjung Aru Community Hall!!!
Nothing's stopping us from floorball-ing. Not the weather, not the availability of courts, not the amount of people not turning up for the training. Nothing.
So here are some pictures of last week's training, featuring a few important things:

#1. Goalie tryouts - Anne
#2. We have two new kids joining us - Nicholas and Vivian
#3. Shawn's new hair cut. Hehe.
(Most pictures are taken by our little miss Shania so it's a bit shaky, hope you guys won't mind.)

Anne definitely showed great potential in goal-keeping.
Keep it up Anne!

See Nicholas & Vivian? The two kids at the right bottom.

Future talents. See how the kids run?!?
Referee: "Your opponent's ball." *Pointing at the other direction*
Lala: "See you on court!" *Pointing at the Referee*
The crowd: "Oooooooooooooooohhhhhh...."
LOL.

Face-off!2 goalies and 1 goal post?!?!? NOT FAIR! Hmmp!
And the highlight of this post...
SHAWN'S NEW HAIRCUT!!!
That's all for now folks.

Friendly Against Reloaded

Well, I won't comment much about the match; except that it was "OUCH!" for the guys (Housefly) but "WHEEEEEEE!" for the girls (Butterfly).
Oh, just in case you're confused, Nomads ladies' team is currently known as Butterfly and as for the guys', IT'S STILL NOMADS LA..... Housefly's just some joke we came up with. Hehe.
The final score was 7-3 to Reloaded. *Ouch* But some of the things that Nomads should be proud of are:

1. Lavinia aka Lala (a girl in an all-girls-line) scored 1 out of 3 goals against the Reloaded guys (and 1 girl). Awesome.
2. Madalen actually played in the game against the rough and tough Reloaded after LOADS of persuading from the team.
3. Reloaded was only able to score one goal against the girls' line but was then recovered by Lala's goal. Super super awesome.
4. The guys didn't give up. They were steady and showed real sportsmenship.
5. Nomads' goalkeepers had MANY good saves.

And last but not least, we are still a TEAM after the game and attended the following week's training despite the defeat. AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME.

So Nomads, I know and I believe we can rise to beyond expectation. All we need is A LITTLE BIT of faith, TONS of sweat training physically, mentally and SERIOUS polishing on our skills.

Nomads (in green) vs Reloaded (red)

Trust me. You don't want this to happen to your ball. Oh, I mean floorball. Hehe.

7 km Charity Run

A legendary runner once said, "If you want to win, run 100 meters. If you want an experience, run a marathon." And that is what the 7km charity run was about - the experience.
It was a first time for many of us (I think la), looking at the way we run. Hehe. 'Cause Nomads were supposed to run together as a team but due to some "human errors", we were scattered all over the place after running a distance of 500 meters. And I believe many of us ran only 3km but walked the other 4. *Oooopppssss*
But beyond that, everything else was awesome. The weather, the adrenaline rush, the sweat, the pain in the muscles while trying to push through our past limits, the cheering crowd (Okay okay, there was no crowd. Was just exaggerating.) It was a good experience.
So, anyone signing up for the Borneo International Marathon held on 11th October 2009? And Yes, I am challenging you.
We are Nomads, anything is possible.

Serious version (Except for Madalen)

Girl Power!!!
