Ultimate Frisbee

Instead of having our usual floorball training, we had an ultimate frisbee session last Sunday due to the unavailability of court. It was supposed to start at 4pm but most of us were already there by 3pm, so we started off by playing this: A game of handball, using a floorball ball, in a basketball court, & at the same time training floorball positions. Confused?? I was too that time. =) But it was fun. Lavinia was so happy that she lost control of herself and scratched Coach Shawn. See the fun? =)

So after less than an hour, we proceed to the field opposite our court and met up with the Ultimate Frisbee fanatics. =) And boy, those guys were HUGE! Tall and buff. Like rugby or American football players. Even the ladies looked healthy. Not too skinny not too fat. Just nice. We had Jaco to brief us slightly through in the beginning, which was then taken over by Ken and Angela.

We then got into pairs to practice passing the frisbee to each other. That was one of the most dangerous moments. Discs flying at all direction. I know 'cause I threw one and nearly hit Shawn's face and Cynthia's disc nearly hit mine. Hahaha. But it was fun. Ken said I look like a ballet dancer 'cause my back leg comes up when I toss the disc (and I shall take that as a compliment XP). After that, we got into 2 teams and the game began.

Each team at their end zones

Each team has a total of 7 players allowed in the field and substitutions are only allowed between points, unlike floorball which you can come out whenever you're tired. The objective of the game is to pass the disc to your teammate at the opposing end zone and earn your team a point. The person holding the disc must not run and has only 10 seconds to pass the disc to another person. Sounds easy eh? BUT IT'S NOT!!!

However, it was really, really fun. Something very different from floorball in terms of tactics and positions, but when it comes to physical strength and speed, both Ultimate frisbee and floorball requires it.

To those of you who missed it, do come and join us and them again on the 22nd of November, at the football field right in front of Tanjung Aru Community Hall. =) Wear proper shoes (soccer shoes recommended), do not eat too much before the game, bring enough water, wear a cap if you're afraid of the sun, sunglasses are allowed if you wanna look cool, and come and have fun. =)

Goalie Tryout - Amy Lim

The first thing I did when I reached was to warm up. Anne taught me how a goalkeeper is suppose to warm up. After that, the shooters had pinball and I had to catch their balls. This was also part of my warming up. Then, they had tactical training but Ann and I didn’t do much at this part because all I could see the most was our coach, Mr. Shawn punishing the shooters push ups.

As for the last part of the ladies training, my knees started to be painful. For me, I felt that it was by God’s grace that my knees were not painful earlier although the knee guard keep on sliding down at the earlier part. Soon. The ladies training was over and the guys training will be starting soon and my heart was pumping faster because guys’ shots are harder, painful and even more solid than ladies’.

The guys also had their pinball first and at that time, I started to get panic and my knees started to hurt a lot. After that, they had their tactical training and here’s where I stopped as a goalie because I can’t stand the pain on my knees which I can’t stand it anymore. The last but not the least, I would like to thank coach Shawn for giving me a chance to be a goalie although I don’t really like it because it hurts my knees but at least I’ve experienced it.
